The goal of Town Star is to create a profitable town by producing and selling crafts.

Here is a very simple guide on how to get started:

 

Pick a Location

First you have to pick the best location for a town.  There are three different types of environments to choose from that each have numerous benefits and disadvantages, there is also an added layer of complexity by pairing these environments with surrounding elements, such as mountains, rivers, and oceans, all of which will have to be covered in a future post.

 

 

For this example, we will begin by selecting a Forest environment.  Click on the environment and Click Yes to confirm

 

Give it any name you like, this will be publicly displayed on the leaderboards and anyone who sees your town can click on it and view your name.  So make it something appropriate so you don’t risk getting removed.

 

If you made a mistake on your location selection or name, you can restart by simply going back to the World view and clicking your town and selecting Destroy Town, this will reset all progress and allow you to start from scratch.
Tip:  If you are playing with friends, send them all your resources first before restarting by using the Neighbor Delivery.

 

Grow Crops

Choosing a spot near a pond or river makes it easier to grow crops as they provide passive water; this means your farmer no longer has to visit a well first to bring water to the crops in order to grow them.

 

At the start of the game, you’ll get some wheat which you can sell if you are not going to use it and have a little extra starting cash.

 

Ponds that you won’t be using can also be sold for $5000 each.  This can be very useful for getting your first Wind Mill up and running quicker in order to produce higher profitable items.

 

Items that are easier to acquire like wood and wheat don’t earn much money nor do they score many points for each sell. It is best to work toward higher tier products.

Right now, the two highest tier crafts are Cake and Blue Steel.

 There are basic components required in order to become fully self-sustainable and generate enough income to fund expansion.

Wood

Wood is one of the most important base components and is required in the majority of buildings that craft, for example, the Wind Mill requires wood when making Sugar, Flour, or Salt.

 

Lumberjack

In order to gather wood, you need to hire a Lumberjack by building a Lumberjack House.  They will also help deliver wood to the nearest Wind Mill or other building that requires it.

Storage Facilities

In order to store your crafted items or gathered materials, you will need various buildings, we’ll start with the basic ones required at the beginning of the game.

 

Wood Shed

The Lumberjack will store excess Wood here (up to 10).  Your starting Town should include one.

 

Silo

Silo’s store crops (up to 20) gathered by Farmers such as; Sugarcane, Wheat, Cotton, and Brine.

 

Storehouse

Storehouse’s hold your crafted products (up to 20) that are produced by Wind Mills, or your Ranch industries.

 

Wind Mill

Once all your storage facilities are completed, build a Wind Mill in order to begin crafting your first tier of items that net a significantly higher profit than your crops.  Your first item to start crafting would be based off of what crop you have decided to go with, Flour if your crops are mostly wheat, Sugar for Sugarcane, Brine for Salt (Cotton is used for the Fabric Plant).

 

IMPORTANT NOTE: Buildings cast Proximity Effects, your Silo will wind block your Wind Mill, and both will cast shade on your crops.  It is important to keep a three tile radius of both away from each other (and other Wind Mills).  See the Proximity Effects guide for more info.

 

Wages

One of the most important aspects of Town Star is managing your workers wages.  In order to earn funds to pay your workers, you must sell your crafted items through the Trade Depot, or the Trade Pier, these must be sold at a minimum of 10 at a time, this will cost Gas each time to send and adds an additional layer of complexity in managing your Gas and building a Refinery in time before you run out of your starting Gas.

 

Your workers are paid every minute, to see the total cost of wages of all your workers per minute, look below your total funds under your avatar.

 

The circle dots represent a timer, when all the dots turn non-solid, the full minute will end and wages will be deducted from your total funds.

 

Tip: Before spending a significant sum of money on a new building, take your total treasury amount and divide it by your worker wages.  This will tell you how many minutes until you completely run out of money.  Time how long it takes you to sell 10 crafted items, as long as the time between selling and the cost of the building still remains above your total balance, you should not run out of funds.

 

Gasoline Production

 

As you are only provided with 40 Gas at the beginning of the game, it is required to start building up your core income and sparingly use your gas.  Do not use all your Gas until you are sure that you can get your Gasoline production running.  Note that the Refinery does cast pollution and shade Proximity Effects on crops and your Ranch, so it is important to put them as far away from your crops and Ranch as possible.

Pro Tip: Get to three Wind Mills as early as you can in the game and only sell Sugar or Flour.  Around 25 Gas remaining you should start saving as much money as you can, with around 10 to 15 Gas left, you should have enough funds to build two Power Plants with a Refinery on each side as seen in the above screen shot, and a Water Pump behind each building, this will allow you to bypass the need of a Water Facility to create Water Drums; as well as the Power Plants will provide passive Energy to the Refineries.
